Welcome to our historic lodge located adjacent to the Wrangell-St. Elias National Park in the Copper Rafting the Klutina River, Copper CenterRiver Valley of interior south central Alaska.  Step in and have a look around.  We are one of the only remaining original roadhouses left in Alaska.  Fishing the Klutina in the Copper River Valley of AlaskaYou'll find the lodging and accommodations very unique and historic.  The beauty is awesome, the fishing and outdoor activities are fantastic and the company is, well, above average.  For you do-it-yourselfers, we not only have a good night's sleep but we offer rafting and camping equipment rentals and campers are always welcome.

 Our Mission

To provide a good warm bed, hot shower, great food and a cold beer (wine, or scotch for those with above average sophistication) in a historical Alaskan setting.  The roof doesn't leak, the toilets usually flush, and you hardly ever hear the person in the next room snoring.  For the workaholics (or not), we do provide wireless internet.

About Our Lodge

Gakona Lodge was established in 1904 for the travelers on the Eagle/Valdez Trail.  It is one of a couple of the original historical AlaskanTeepee at night next to Wrangell-St Elias National Park roadhouses.  All others have been destroyed.  The lodge consists of 9 rooms with 2 shared bathrooms, 1 room with private bath and 4 cabins (the cabins have their own bathrooms.)  Most of the rooms in the lodge have double beds and some with an additional single bed.  Two of the cabins have kitchens and multipleRafting the Copper River at Miles Lake bedrooms.

We have Tipi's for those who would enjoy sleeping next to a fire.  We provide a continental breakfast for those staying in the Lodge and from May 20th to September 15th we have the Carriage House Restaurant open in the evenings serving everything from a burger to halibut.  The food is awesome!

Dog "Bosco" and his first King Salmon

We have a tavern called The Trappers Den where you can fill your cocktail fancy. Anybody that knows anything about salmon probably will recognize "Copper River."  Yeah, the salmon fishing is pretty good!  The best fishing is in the months of June and July for Kings, June, July and August for Reds, and July, August,  September for Rainbows.  If you're interested in fishing the Klutina or Gulkana River's go to our fishing page for do-it-yourself and fishing guide info.

We are located at the confluence of the Gakona and Copper Rivers just off the Richardson Highway north of Glennallen.  North of Valdez 125 miles and north east of Anchorage 198 miles on Highway 1 (Tok Cutoff). Click on our "Getting here" link for specific instructions.

We offer all the equipment you will need to float the rivers.  See our rental equipment link for prices and other information.
